KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today clarified that the actual price for the intended purchase of Eurocopter helicopters was RM1.607 billion.
He said the "round up" figure of RM1.7 billion given earlier was a mistake.
"When I made a statement that it was RM1.7 billion, that was a mistake ... I apologise for the mistake, the officer put RM1.607 billion so I said we can round up the figure to RM1.7 billion.
"This morning when I was at the Ministry of Defence, I was informed that the figure was wrong, actually it was RM1.607 billion.
"But anyway this is now academic. When we decide later on to negotiate for the purchase of the helicopters -- when we feel it is time to do that and we feel we have money to do that -- we will see what the price will be," he said.
Abdullah said this in a news conference after chairing a meeting of the cabinet committee on the competitiveness of the palm oil industry at parliament house here today
